1. What is matcha?

Matcha literally mean “powdered tea”, in Japanese “cha” means tea, and “ma” means powder, thus the word matcha translates literally as powdered green tea, is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Matcha comes from the same kind of tea plant as other green teas, but differences in the way the plants are grown result in differences in flavor and appearance.

After harvesting, the leaves are steamed and dried, allowing them to remain flat while they are stripped of their veins and stems. The stripped leaves are then ground in slow-turning stone mills. Everything, from the harvesting to the milling is done to produce the very best Matcha possible

Matcha green tea originated in Japan, and because the entire leaf is ingested in powder form, it is the most potent green tea in the world. It creates an exquisite cuppa that brims with health benefits and is a ritual in itself.

2. Surprising Matcha Tea Benefits

– By the Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity (ORAC) test, Matcha has 1300 units of antioxidants per gram. Compared to pomegranates and blueberries, which are well known for their antioxidant properties, Matcha has nearly 14x the antioxidants. Matcha is also very good for losing weight and for keeping your heart healthy.

– Matcha contains around 32 times the Vitamin E found in spinach and around two times that found in chili peppers, and hardly any foods have it in higher concentration.

– Matcha could prevent liver damage and decrease the risk of liver disease.

– Matcha has been shown to improve attention, memory and reaction time.

– Matcha may inhibit the growth of cancer cells by its compound EGCG.

– Studies show that matcha can help to decrease several heart disease risk factors and be associated with a decreased risk of heart disease and stroke.

– Some studies show that green tea extract helps increase metabolism and fat burning, both of which may aid weight loss.
